Chairs :: An Obsession

I’ve always loved chairs. This love has grown recently first with the wedding and now with my home-focused-brain.. Chairs can make a huge statement, whether at a wedding or in the living room .. which is part of why I love them so much. I wanted to share some recent inspiration for things that yo’ bum sits on, both for parties/weddings and in your home.

First, I have to show you this picture.  How gorgeous are those ribbons?!  This was for a wedding ceremony for the guests’ chairs.  Time consuming, but sooooo worth it!  I am in love with this.

Another great idea for a ceremony or party is to add some color with pillows.  Not only do they increase the comfort level, but they are also appealing to the eye.

This is another wedding idea, which I love for hanging on the new couple’s chairs at the reception.

Now to the home..  I am currently on the prowl at garage sales, Craigslist, and side of the road locations with my eyes peeled for some kind of frame similar to these which I could recover.  At the moment, I’ve given up hope of buying something like these in a newer fashion.  But hey, I love a challenge.

How amazing are these?

Anthro, you would.

I love love love these bright chairs for a child’s play area or even for a big person’s desk chair.  Maybe I’ll repaint the office chair (currently red) with a fresh coat of highlighter lemon.

Lastly, I am in love with the idea of tree trunks as chairs – side tables – footstools .. what have you.  Fortunately, I picked up some stumps off the side of our old street in the fall when some neighbors were cutting down a tree.  Yes, my husband still loves me.

I have yet to tackle this project, but it’s coming sometime soon.  Maybe when we’re in double-digits again.

Rue La La :: Bridal

Now they’ve done it. I was already obsessed with these online shopping machines, like Rue La La, but now they go and pull wedding dresses into the mix. Amazing!

Originally $440 :: Now $150

Originally $1,980 :: Now $700

Originally $1,870 :: Now $700

Originally $495 :: Now $200

I love the short lace one especially … perfect for summer. They also have shoes and other accessories on sale today.

Originally $120 :: Now $60
Sondra Roberts … c’mon now. Loving the silver.

And of course, they couldn’t omit some shoes.
Originally $215 :: Now $80

The boys weren’t left out either … large selection of suits, bowties, and suspenders!
Originally $50 :: Now $20

Originally $80 :: Now $40

Daily pick-me-up — sales start at 10 every morning. If you need an invite, let me know! Only catch is … you can’t hate me later when you spend too much money. Self control, people. Self control.

I came across this poster at some point. It’s layout reminds me of the stop. drop. and roll. drills we had pounded into our heads during elementary .. but in most situations I always make better decisions after calming myself down ; shopping or not.

So there you go … shopping high to contemplation. My mind bounces around alot. Hope your day is full of random thoughts too! Keep it interesting.

Vintage Fresh Style Shoot :: Sneak Peek

So… remember that workshop back in April that I styled with BellaPop?? Well, I have a little sneak peek for you compliments of Vanessa of Del Pino Photography, who attended the workshop. We had such a great time that day and the weather was perfect (minus the minor gusts of wind)! Here’s a small taste of that day … many more pictures to come! Vanessa, girl, you’ve got some major talent. Thanks again for sharing your amazing shots!

Howard Home + Wedding Cake Goodness

Welcome to our new home. We close on Wednesday! I can’t wait to get the keys and really start nesting. With how pre-occupied I’ve been with furniture, paint colors, and decorating ideas to make the space a reflection of us, I can only imagine how crazy mother birdy I’ll be when we have a (human) little one. I had to specify, because Levi has clearly realized that I view Hagen as my daughter and I’m a little crazy protective of her. It’s ok .. you can think I’m crazy too.

These next few weeks will be busy as we give some walls new life with some awesome colors and get all of our stuff moved over. . . So, I apologize in advance if there is a lack of posting activity .. but I’ll do what I can. I’ll try to give updates as we go, especially with the garage sale finds we’ve been updating! First on the agenda is to cut down a chinaberry tree in our backyard. We don’t want any dying puppies on our hands!

In other news, Stephen and Teresa have been married for over a week now! I wanted to share some pictures of the wedding cake that my Mom and I made for their awesome shindig. We got the idea for the rose piping here. It turned out almost as great as the wedding itself. I am still so happy for those two and their adventure in this life! Here’s to many years of chasing each other around the house.

B H L D N :: Decor

Yesterday, BHLDN debuted their new decor line. Now they won’t just dress us, they’ll dress our events too. Go take a peek at all the fun new shiny things. Tabletop. Decorating. Lighting. Keepsakes. Stationary. Here’s a taste..

There are some really lovely things.  Some affordable things!  Which is not often the case with Anthro, unless you scan the sale section.  Regardless, their new line is beautiful as always and definitely deserves a look!

Here’s to a kickin‘ weekend!

Charlotte Casadéjus :: Vintage Wedding Dress

With the ominous weather (and much needed rain) we’ve been having here, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight some wedding dress action. I still have wedding fever from this past weekend .. Stephen and Teresa, who we threw the wedding shower for, said ‘I Do’ last Friday. It was a beautiful ceremony and reception that reflected their style so well; it was such a special event to witness their love and devotion to each other as they begin their lives as husband and wife. I wish you two the absolute best in life and love. You are perfect. for. each. other.

Ok, now on to the dresses

I came across British designer, Charlotte Casadéjus, on Ruffled last week. Charlotte’s dresses have a distinct vintage feel, with lots of whimsical fabrics and details. She has debuting a new dress line soon .. I can’t wait to see it!

Oh, and she also has a line of gorgeous vintage bags and belts in the works. Love!

Oh Dear! :: Rustic Wedding Shower

This wedding shower was a gift to one of my best friends, and his beautiful fiancé. At the end of this month, she will walk down the aisle, take his hand, and they will become husband and wife. They are full of life and ready to take on what this world throws at them! Stephen and Teresa both serve in the U.S. Marines and have a love for all things country .. as a lot of us do in Texas. For their shower, I wanted to incorporate their wedding colors and lots of rustic details.  The weather was perfect and we had lots of fun catching up with old friends and making new ones.

We had a biscuit bar, with all kinds of toppings … including the infamous jar of bacon!

My brother contributed some deer antlers he had, you know, just lying around … and even took the time to mount them for me! Like a pro!

What kind of Texan party would it be without some haybails?!

One of my favorite things about the food [other than the bacon, of course] was the Heart Cake that my mom and I made the night before.  I fell in love with this idea a few months ago … and just had to try it!  We were going for a more “peachy” color, but with the cocoa it turned out much deeper.  It was quite yummy, though!

A HUGE thanks to everyone who helped with this event, especially my husband — lugging those pallets around — and my mom, chef extraordinaire.  Also, to the wonderful Brandy & Brandon Frank of Bella Pop Photography!  They so graciously took pictures of the details before the guests arrived.  Hugs to all.

Vintage Wedding Dresses :: Mill Crest Vintage

I came across this lovely site while browsing Ruffled over the weekend. Mill Crest Vintage carries authentic, one of a kind vintage wedding dresses from the turn of the century to the 90’s. The site also has a plethora of vintage accessories, including these lovely velvet sashes. They also have day dresses, which are so fun to browse through. It makes me imagine myself as Lucy, dressing up and waiting for Ricky to get home.

Although there is plenty to adore … this dress is by far my favorite.  1950’s Peggy Sue Got Married!

Drop back by on Wednesday — I’ve got some lovely detail pictures to share from the Oh Dear! wedding shower!

Chandeliers :: Wedding Detail

Chandeliers can elevate the detail level of any space.  Whether crystal, rod-iron, silver or gold, these beautiful fixtures would be a great addition to any event.  It doesn’t have to be expensive either; I have come across many chandeliers in thrift stores and resale sites that could easily be painted or altered to fit within your theme and style.  I love the idea of hanging them from trees for an outdoor reception .. really I just like the idea of hanging anything from trees.  This especially beautiful, though.

The rustic-romantic transformation of this barn is amazing.  I love the softness and chic atmosphere that the chandelier brings to the space … just  breathtaking.

The ribbons … oh the ribbons.  This reception was adorable.  Creating a tent out of ribbons — genious.  What’s even more genius is hanging a chandelier from the center.  So whimsical.  So playful.  I love it.

On another and equally amazing note, get ready for detail pictures in the coming week! I can’t wait to premiere the gorgeous photos from the Oh Dear! wedding shower and Vintage Fresh workshop!!! Also, the new blog and website are in the works … hopefully they will be up and running soon! For now, enjoy that weekend of yours.

Cake Topper :: Wedding Detail

For our wedding, the cake topper had to be something different … just because I like that sort of thing.  I wasn’t sure what I was wanting at the time, but when I came across these adorable love birds – I knew they were perfect for us.  Although birds weren’t a part of the wedding in any other way, I love that they idealized the carefree and adventurous personality of our relationship and outlook towards life in general.

When I see other couples who have also gone down this path, of finding creative and interesting details to add to their cake, I just love it.  These are a few of my favorites …
